The Sacred Heart Athletic Association basketball program is for children in Grades 1 through 8. 

• The Instructional Basketball program is for boys and girls grades 1 through 2.
• The St. Louis CYC Basketball program is for boys and girls grades 3 through 8.

Sacred Heart Youth Basketball (Instructional Basketball): 

• Our instructional basketball program is for 1st and 2nd-grade boys and girls with the purpose of introducing them to the basics of basketball in a non-competitive environment. 
• When are sessions held?  Saturday mornings starting in January and ending in March.  
• When does registration open?  Mid-November and ends with the first practice session in January.

CYC Basketball: 

• Boys and girls in Grades 3-8 participate in the St. Louis CYC League.  

• When does registration normally take place? 
  • Registration normally starts in late August and runs through October 1st after which late registrations can be accepted pending available roster spots.
• When do we find out what team my child is on? 
  • Mid-to-late November.
• When do practices normally start? 
  • Practices could be as early as Thanksgiving week. Each team will be assigned one practice slot per week with practices scheduled Monday thru Thursday evenings.
• When does the season usually start?
  • Games begin in January and end in early March with games played on Friday evening, Saturday morning/afternoon/evening, or Sunday afternoon/evening.  Grades 3 & 4 typically play home games on Sunday afternoons with grades 5 - 8 playing home games on Friday or Saturday.  All games scheduled away from Sacred Heart could be played on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
• How many games can we expect to play? 
  • 8 to 10 regular league games plus your coach may also elect to play in a tournament, and/or your team may qualify for post-season games.
• What are the minimum playing time requirements?
  • Coaches are encouraged to balance playing time equally amongst all players. The CYC minimum requirements are that each player shall be played a minimum of 25% (one-quarter) of each game.
• What is a CYC player ID card, and who needs one?
  • A CYC ID card is a picture ID identifying the player. Its purpose is to ensure that all players at a game are legitimate team players. Players at the 3rd-grade level and above are required to have a CYC ID card. Normally, the coach will keep the cards for all the players for the entire season, returning them at the end of the season. The ID cards are fairly inexpensive (about $5.00). You are encouraged to obtain 2 cards. This will be helpful if your child plays more than one sport at the same time, or if you lose one. • How are the teams decided?
  • At the 3rd & 4th-grade level, SHAA policy is to hold evaluations to determine an A/B even split of all players with the sole purpose to balance our teams with regard to the various levels of ability.  At the 5th grade level, CYC sports become more competitive and teams at all parishes are formed on skill level.  Therefore, SHAA policy is to hold evaluations to determine an A/B straight split of all players.  First to place your son on the correct team but most importantly to ensure each team is placed into the correct league and level of competition.
• What is the maximum number of players on a team?
  • Per the SHAA by-laws, the preferred maximum is 10 players.
