Why Should kids play golf?
Anyone can play! You don't need to be a certain height or in any special shape to play. And unlike most other sports, you can enjoy golf your entire life. It's never too early to start!
Golf also teaches life skills! A child will learn Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility, Perseverance & Respect while enhancing Confidence & Judgement. There is more to golf than physical skills and technique!
Sacred Heart offers two golf programs:
The Spring Junior League Golf program for boys and girls grades 5 thru 8.
The Spring Training Golf program for boys and girls grades 2 thru 4.
The Junior Golf League (Grades 5 - 8)
The Junior League is for boys and girls in grades 5 thru 8.
Consists of- 3 group lessons taught by golf professionals and six 9-hole rounds of golf competing against other schools in the south-central CYC region
Teams - Teams consist of 5-8 players. Boys and girls are separated. Grades are separated as best possible (sometimes grades will be combined) but 5th and 6th grade will always stay together and 7th and 8th grade will always stay together.
Parent Volunteer - Each team will require a parent coordinator to volunteer and manage the schedule, players, scores, shirt distribution, and team communication including course updates, rainouts, etc. Occasionally, players from another parish will be added to our roster if they don't have enough players to form their own team.
Scoring - Scores are kept for individuals and teams.
Matches- Rounds will be scheduled Saturday and Sunday (tee times will vary).
Courses – 5th & 6th graders usually play: Family Golf and Riverside par 3. The 7th & 8th graders usually play The Highlands at Forest Park, Riverside, Legends, and Colt course at Crescent Farms. Course selection is based on age/grade and course availability.
Sub Rounds- If your child is unable to make their assigned tee time, the golf league allows for some flexibility. They may have the opportunity to sub and play their round at another time.
IMPORTANT - All JUNIOR league players and a parent must attend a rules seminar. (Yes, even if you went last year. It’s mandatory as things change every year plus it’s a refresher!). Visit southcentralcycgolf.com to find locations and times.
